A Letter to Self

by

Diane Magno

In "A Letter to Self," Diane humorously reflects on her future self, wondering if she still enjoys the stories that once brought her joy. Inspired by C. S. Lewis's quote on fairytales, the letter explores nostalgia, wisdom, and the connection between past and present, encouraging readers to reflect on how much of their childhood selves they retain as they age.

"Someday you will be old enough to read fairytales again."

- C. S. Lewis

Dear Older Self,

I’m sorry for calling you old, but it’s the truth, so you’ve got to accept it. This is you from the past, and I’m wondering if you’re doing okay right now. Just so you know, I’m still reading fairytales, which is why I’m curious if you ever stopped. How many books have you finished reading? Are you a lot wiser now? Or are you still the same clumsy kid pretending she knows what she’s doing? It doesn’t matter, because you will never be too old to do the things you like. If you ever feel sad, I hope you read this letter to remind yourself of who you are. I will always be there for you.

Your Forever Best Friend,

Diane
